About Me & The Graffiti Dog
My name is Bernard Lima-Chavez. I share my life and bed with 2 deaf dogs, 2 hearing dogs, 6 cats and my husband. Let’s pretend his name is Ricky Ricardo. I’m pretty sure I’m hilarious and love to use humor in my writing..
The Graffiti Dog focuses on deaf dog awareness, training and education. I work to increase deaf dog awareness and write about my personal experiences living with deaf dogs as well as training, safety and other educational content that will help deaf dog pet parents and their dogs live rich, full, happy lives.
Along the way, I also promote street art and street artists.
In addition to The Graffiti Dog, I am a freelance writer. My writing has appeared in many publications and websites, including The Huffington Post, Victoria Stilwell’s Positively.com, Nashville Paw Magazine, BlogPaws, Rise Miami News and Deaf Dogs Rock among others.
I am also a veterinary technician who worked for many years in animal welfare. During my years working for an animal shelter, I held several roles: volunteer and then, upon completion of my veterinary technician education, I assumed the role of Shelter Veterinary Technician, followed by Lead Shelter Veterinary Technician, Foster Care and Enrichment Programs Coordinator and, lastly, Animal Care and Program Development Manager.
I have participated in several large-scale emergency sheltering cases for the ASPCA, including the second largest, multi-state dog fighting bust in U.S. history.
“Dog & His Boy is a blog with a heart. Bernard gives a voice for the dogs who are deaf and beyond: He has a passion for canines and it shines in his blog posts. In a world full of blogs and stories that seem mundane, Dog & His Boy set the bark high with memorable, heartfelt pieces that will linger in your mind long after you’ve logged off.” ~ Carol Bryant, Fidose of Reality
“The minute I met Bernard I was impressed by his expertise, passion and love for animals. Since then, I’ve discovered how thoughtful, purposeful and thorough he is in his work. All of this on top of being a gifted writer! It’s always a pleasure to work with Bernard!” ~ Caroline Golon, High Paw Media
