Dr. Harvey’s Everyday Keeps the Veterinarian Away!
This post is sponsored by Dr. Harvey’s®. I am being compensated for helping spread the word about Dr. Harvey’s Ortho-Flex all-natural herbal supplement, but Dog & His Boy only shares information we feel is relevant to our readers. Dr. Harvey’s is not responsible for the content of this article.
Achieving and maintaining your dog’s good health through natural, holistic nutrition and herbal supplements is a special passion of ours here at Dog & His Boy. As I always say, “Mammals are mammals”, and the same common sense recommendations for human health applies equally to the dogs and cats who co-opt our beds and hearts.
The deaf and hearing dogs here at Deaf Dog Central enjoy good overall health because they are fed a rotational diet based on wholesome, grain-free foods made of high-quality vegetables, fruits and proteins. One of our favorite foods is Dr. Harvey’s Veg-To-Bowl. This is power-packed with nutrition! Take a look at the top ingredients:
- Sweet Potatoes
- Green Beans
- Dried Kelp
Though a comprehensive review of Dr. Harvey’s Veg-To-Bowl is coming soon, today I want to talk about one of Dr. Harvey’s wholesome, natural herbal supplements: Ortho-Flex.
Our dog, Galileo, had a rough start in life. I’m talking, “Lifetime Movie of The Week” rough. When we brought him home as a medical foster, he was completely lame in both hind legs due to fractures in his lumbar spine. His mobility was so limited that we had to lift his food and water bowls up to him and carry him outside. He also had ehrlichiosis, a blood-infection caused by the hundreds of ticks we spent two days pulling off him. He had been left tied to a fence and was significantly underweight. Oh, and demodex. He had a case of localized demodectic mange. Essentially, he could have starred in an ASPCA fundraising video and brought in gobs of money. You can read his story here.
Since surgery posed more risks than potential benefits, we worked with a holistic veterinarian to develop a treatment plan to address his many medical and psychosocial needs. One of the first things we discussed and changed was his diet and our feeding philosophy. We implemented rotational feeding principles that is based on wholesome food and natural herbal supplements. We also employed acupuncture, massage therapy, physical therapy and hydrotherapy. If not for the late Dr. Lois Sargent, Galileo would not be the dog he is today!
Though he is our strongest and our fastest dingo, we do have to keep a watchful eye on him. His physical conformation is a little screwy and his gait is not normal. This means he is prone to more orthopedic aches, pains and medical issues than our other dogs, especially in his knees. His body has healed in such a way that extra pressure is being placed on these joints and sometimes he is painful. Though I am confident that a natural, holistically-developed diet has been a big part of his healing process, I also believe that the herbal supplements we add to his food helps him live a more mobile and pain-free life.
And as much as we are indebted to Dr. Sargent, we are also indebted to Dr. Harvey’s for helping us achieve and maintain good health for all of our dogs, but especially Galileo and his wonky joints!
Our favorite supplement is Dr. Harvey’s Ortho-Flex. The base of each of Dr. Harvey’s all-natural herbal supplements is a combination of several whole foods including bee pollen, spirulina, lecithin, nutritional yeast, flax seed meal, alfalfa and kelp. This is important because whole foods are easily absorbed and used by the body. Whole foods also provide all the nutritional components of good health: proteins, amino acids, vitamins, minerals and carbohydrates.
The Ortho-Flex supplement is designed to support good joint health and includes carefully selected herbs, including:
- Rose Hips
- Devil’s Claw
- Fever Few
- Skull Cap
- White Willow Bark
- Oat Straw
- Ortho-Flex also includes Chondroiton Sulfate
Of course, as with all of Dr. Harvey’s products, no preservatives, coloring agents or anything synthetic is added. This is a wholesome, all-natural, holistic supplement that works! For more nutritional and educational information, please look at Dr. Harvey’s educational resource page.
How To Use
All of Dr. Harvey’s herbal supplements are in powdered form. This is perfect for pet parents whose dogs fight or refuse pills or tablets. To add Ortho-Flex to your dog’s diet, simply use the scoop that is included and sprinkle it on your dog’s food. Detailed instructions come with every tin. I typically mix it in with a spoon, but this is more about my OCD and it’s not necessary to add this step.
One thing I am struck by is how yummy the Ortho-Flex smells! Seriously, I’m inclined to use it as a pork loin rub the next time I am possessed by Rachel Ray and knowledge of operating an oven.
But There’s More…
In a recent post, I talked about how special of a company Dr. Harvey’s is. A great example is their current campaign to help the indigenous Potcake dog of the Bahamas through a local Bahamian shelter. Right now, Dr. Harvey’s is raising money for Abaco Shelter, the ONLY shelter on the island of Abaco. They receive ABSOLUTELY NO government funding and is run by volunteers only.
Being as committed to animal welfare and rescue as they are to providing natural and organic food, supplements and grooming products, Dr. Harvey’s has taken up the mantle to support Abacos Shelter and the Potcake dogs. You can find out more about the project and how you can help by looking here. Dog & His Boy is proud to have donated and we encourage you to join us. Here is an extremely easy way to help. If you do, please tell them Edison The Deaf Dog sent you!
