Your Dog Wants To Stay At Red Roof & Here’s Why
Edison On Tour, Part 1

Edison On Tour
You know those things on your hit list, those things you really want MUST DO in this lifetime? Things that feel like a personal AND professional calling? Well, Edison and I just checked a biggie off our list- we recently finished our first street art tour! What made this tour extra-special was that it was sponsored by Red Roof.
We spent 4 days road-tripping it from Miami to West Palm Beach, then west to Orlando and St. Petersburg and then back to our home base and stomping ground of Miami.
I drove and rocked out to a special playlist I created for the trip while Edison kicked back and relaxed in the back seat. He’s the boss of this thing called The Graffiti Dog, so I guess that’s fair.
Though I had never stayed at a Red Roof hotel, I knew they were pet friendly so I chose to partner with them. I was excited to learn more about the company, stay in their hotels, meet the staff and, of course, scope out those massive-looking beds I see in promotional photographs.

Another masterpiece by L.A.-based artist, Tristan Eaton. I knew how to get MYSELF on top of the shorter building, but there was no safe way to get Edison up there!
The Art of West Palm Beach
It was a hot morning when we embarked on the first leg of our tour- Miami to West Palm Beach- and I was anxious to get there as soon as possible. I wanted to start flicking photos by mid- to late morning before the Florida summer sun and heat became suffocating and intolerable for Edison (and me!).
WPB is only about two hours away but in the two and a half years I’ve been shooting photos of Edison with street art, somehow I’ve never made the trip up there.

I’ve made plans for day trips several times but, come Saturday, I’ve always found something more compelling to do than spend 4 hours in the car. Like ignoring that sink of dirty dishes or taking a nap.
By starting with WPB, not only did I finally make the trip, but I saw some cool walls and we didn’t have to drive very long.

I had carefully planned our itinerary so Edison wasn’t stuck in the car for more than a few hours on each leg. Getaways are best when you’re outside meeting people, taking in the sights and smelling new smells, not sitting in the backseat watching through the window as the world whizzes by.
Once we arrived in WPB, we spent several hours crawling the streets and hunting down walls that caught my eye, but by early afternoon, the sun and heat had become too much for Edison, so we chilled out in the cool shade of an outdoor cafe for a while.
Of course, Edison requires a large cup of fresh iced water, not the cool water I always bring along. I should know this by now. I mean, he earned the nickname “Princess Prissypants” for a reason…
After taking a break and cooling down, we hunted down a few more walls. When I called the hotel to see what time we could check in, they told me that check-in was typically 4pm but that our room was ready and waiting for us and we could check in anytime!
Since the temperatures were climbing with no relief in sight, we headed over to the Red Roof PLUS+ West Palm Beach to get settled in, cool off and then explore the hotel and property.
From the time we walked into the lobby to the morning we checked out, I was impressed and surprised by Red Roof.
And after three nights in three different Red Roof hotels in three different cities, I can tell you we are now a Red Roof family… and here’s why.

I captured this wall by Eduardo Mendieta AKA EMO outside a restaurant downtown WPB.

Red Roof Loves Pets!
While checking into the Red Roof PLUS+ in West Palm Beach, I quickly realized that Red Roof isn’t just pet friendly, they are pet welcoming!
The front desk team was excited and eagerly waiting to meet Edison- and the manager even came out say hi and scratch his ears! Edison is a total ham and feeds off adoration from
other peoplehis fans. He would have been more than happy to spend the rest of the day at the front desk being fawned over. Princess Prissypants, remember? My experience taught me that #RedRoofLUVSPets isn’t just a marketing hashtag, it’s truly one of their values.
-
Pets Stay Free with No Pet Deposit
At Red Roof, pets always stay free at 500+ locations and there is never a pet deposit!
This means that traveling with your dog and staying at Red Roof is cheaper than leaving your dog at home with your pet sitter or at a boarding facility.
Cheaper vacations and weekend getaways mean MORE vacations and getaways, which means more happy memories for you and your dog! And of course, traveling with your pet means more Instagram photos of your dog!
When traveling with your pet, or if you’re traveling with more than one pet, make sure you call ahead. Red Roof will do whatever they can to accommodate you and your pet(s).

Beds Big Enough So Your Dog Will Let You Sleep With Him
There’s something you should know about me, I unapologetically let Edison sleep with me- or more accurately, Edison lets me sleep with him!
Edison requires a lot of space and blankets in bed and if I don’t get in first, I can either sleep on the edge of the bed or on the floor.
And to be honest, I’m not real generous with the amount of the bed and blankets I’m willing to share either, so we battle it out most nights. My husband may lose this nightly battle but Edison always wins, just in case you’re wondering.
But at Red Roof, the beds are just as big and comfy as they look in photos on their website and on Facebook.
Edison willingly and comfortably shared his bed with me and we both slept well, woke rested and ready to hit the streets again.

Clean, Maintained Pet Stations
Clean pet stations aren’t just more pleasant to be in, but they’re healthier too.
Certain parasites and infectious diseases are transmitted by pet waste and clean pet areas are a must for good pet health! The two pet stations at the West Palm Beach locations had pick-up baggies available and clean trash bins that were changed frequently. In fact, I never found them dirty.
Red Roof loves pets and keeping their pet stations and the rest of the property clean is one way they help you keep your pet healthy.
Picking up after your pet is never exactly fun, but having a clean, well-maintained area definitely made it more pleasant.
And I really appreciated those baggies when I accidentally left my poop bags in my room early one morning before my coffee kicked in.

Renovated Rooms
Many of the Red Roof locations have been completely renovated and re-imagined.
In addition to those big comfy beds, each room we stayed in had electrical outlets on each side of the bed (cellphone, anyone?) and new wood veneer floors, which made the room feel like home away from home.
The floors are also easy to clean in between guests, which prevents the room from smelling like previous pets.
And if your dog has an accident? That easy-to-clean floor will help you keep your dog’s reputation and good name in intact! This didn’t happen to Edison, but it put my mind at ease knowing there was an easy solution if it had.
BONUS! In addition to a coffee maker in our room, there was fresh, hot coffee available in the lobby 24/7. To say I’m addicted to coffee is an understatement- ask anyone who knows me and they’ll tell you I’m never without coffee in my hands. Fresh, hot coffee available 24/7 is the way to my heart!

Coming Up Next…
After a long, hot, exhausting day in WPB that ended on the cool, high-note of a big comfy bed and all the fresh coffee I could drink at Red Roof PLUS+ in West Palm Beach, Edison and I woke rested and hit the road again. Our next stop was Orlando, FL.
A common theme throughout the tour was traveling and working outside in the hot summer sun. Watch this space for our adventures in Orlando as well as tips for safe summer traveling with your pets!
